Elizabeth Powers is an Associate Professor of Economics and a faculty member of the Institute of Government and Public Affairs at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Prior to joining the University of Illinois in 1996, Dr. Powers was an economist with the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland and a junior staff economist with President George H.W. Bush’s Council of Economic Advisers. Dr. Powers has conducted research and outreach on welfare reform, means-tested aid for the elderly and disabled, subsidized child care, and the service system for individuals with developmental disabilities. She has been the recipient of grants from the Joint Centers for Poverty Research at Northwestern and Kentucky, the Social Security Administration, the Russel Sage Foundation, and the University of Michigan’s Retirement Research Consortium, among others.
