Food Groups and Grocery Shopping

In this lesson, children will learn what types of food fall under each food group and how to make a balanced meal. Activities include a shopping experience in which children get to go shopping in a make-believe store and make a balanced meal.

Key Focus Points: There are many ways to help shop for food such as helping with the grocery list and helping find items at the store.

It is important to shop for healthy meals.

Fruits, vegetables, protein, dairy, and grains make up the five different food groups.

Eat a balanced meal that encompasses most or all of the five food groups.
